About the Collection

Dr. Miroslaw and Anna Hnatiuk immigrated to the USA from Western Ukrainian town of Zalyshchyky in 1949. Throughout their married life, the Hnatiuk’s were concerned with the  existence of Ukraine and became avid collectors of examples of her culture.  They created a small museum wherever they lived and welcomed visitors to learn about Ukrainian history and culture through these artifacts.

After Dr. M. Hnatiuk’s passing, a significant portion of items were donated to Cleveland’s Ukrainian Museum-Archives in 2009 . After the passing of Anna Hnatiuk in 2018, the family (Dr. Yuri Hnatiuk and Martha, Dr. Bohdan Hnatiuk and Wiebke and Andree Hnatiuk and Victoria) decided to donate the remainder of their parent’s prized collection of textiles, ceramics, and traditional wood carvings to the UAAM.  On June 11, 2021, UAAM presented an exhibit: Treasures of Our Homeland - Скарби Батьківщини - Dr. Miroslaw & Anna Hnatiuk Collection in which these works of art  were shared and displayed.
